How Your Support Makes an Impact
The IRC supports refugees and displaced families through every stage of recovery, from emergency response to long-term stability. Explore six key program areas where your support is helping people build safer, healthier and more stable futures.
Emergency Response
The PHCC, supported by the IRC, provides free, high-quality medical care. In addition to treating patients at the clinic, staff regularly visit informal tented settlements for displaced Syrians to conduct basic health check-ups, offer referrals and raise awareness about the clinic’s services so more people can access free care.
Nutrition
To help mothers and their children break out of this vicious cycle, the IRC runs various support groups in Kakuma. In “mother to mother” groups, women are offered advice on nutrition, such as how to cook the most nutritious meals with limited ingredients.
Legal Services
In partnership with Uber, the IRC gives many newly arrived clients Uber gift cards so they can attend critical appointments like doctor visits and job interviews while they learn to navigate public transportation or save up for a car of their own.
Mental Healthcare
As part of the emergency response in Lebanon, IRC teams are conducting recreational activities for displaced children in collective shelters, providing a safe space for play, self-expression and stress relief.
Education
The IRC occasionally holds psychological and psychosocial support sessions in these underground schools. These sessions help children better understand their emotions, learn how to cope with stress and build healthy communication skills in a supportive environment.
Economic Empowerment
The IRC and Ikea Foundations Re:BUiLD program partnered Nakazzi with KenKat workshop to facilitate her apprenticeship.
